ROBUS Project Engineer, Steve King, recently worked on a lighting retrofit in the iconic Northern & Shell Offices in London. This London City landmark is located on Lower Thames Street and looks out over the Thames and Tower Bridge. Steve King worked with electrical contractors Synergy Electric for this project.
Synergy Electric wanted reliable LED fittings that were also stylish in design to fit in with the modern interior of the Northern & Shell Building. They wanted LED fittings to ensure energy savings which will result in cost savings in the future.
The main ROBUS products chosen for the Northern & Shell retrofit were the ROBUS SUN Circular Panels and the ROBUS ATMOS Panels. They also had some ROBUS TRIUMPH ACTIVATE Downlights installed inside the bathrooms. The Northern & Shell Building has a fully glass exterior so the ROBUS SUN and ROBUS ATMOS can even be seen from outside of the building.
The ROBUS ATMOS 300x1200mm panels were selected for the main office space. This office space is unique as it has metal ceilings. The ROBUS ATMOS were recessed into the SAS metal ceiling using the RPLBRK-01 brackets. The rectangle shape of the 300x1200mm panels fits very well with the sleek and modern interior of the office. Aside from the design fit, the ROBUS ATMOS was chosen as it has an impressive 3,220 to 3,760 lumen light output while also providing substantial energy savings for fast ROI. They also have 30,000 lifetime hours with virtually no maintenance costs. These factors made the ROBUS ATMOS the ideal fitting for the office space.
The ROBUS SUN panels were chosen and fitted along the window frames of the office and in the hallways, creating a nice symmetrical design down the corridors. They look particularly sleek in the hallway where they reflect off the marble floors.
The ROBUS TRIUMPH ACTIVATE Downlights were installed in the bathroom along with some more ROBUS SUN Circular Panels. The ROBUS TRIUMPH ACTIVATE Downlights were placed along the edges of the bathrooms and above the mirror. These fittings are small in size, so they work very well as spotlights with the Larger ROBUS Sun panels being placed in the centre of the bathrooms.
